The Shapes Assessment Powered by PsychoGeometrics® is a communication system featuring five shapes used to identify traits and behaviors, specifically in terms of how one is described, acts, and relates to others.

PsychoGeometrics® was initially created in 1978 by Susan Dellinger, Ph.D., then in 2004, Dr. Dellinger partnered with Jack Wolf, Ph.D., and had The University of California Santa Cruz conduct a factor analysis of PsychoGeometrics®. In 2005 Dr. Wolf created and developed the first written Assessment, and in 2010 the first online Assessment was created and launched. In 2020 Dr. Dellinger sold PsychoGeometrics® LLC, including intellectual property, copyrights, and trademark, to Susan Hite, founder and President of Hite Resources, Inc. since 2001, PsychoGeometrics® licensed consultant and certified facilitator since 2002, and now serving as Innovator and CEO of PsychoGeometrics®.

  • It is not a personality test. However, it does feature an assessment that measures your natural traits, behaviors, and interactions with others, which ultimately contributes to your personality and communication style. And unlike similar assessments, Shapes is easy to learn, remember and use immediately.
  • It includes something that other similar assessments do not, which is the Rectangle. The Rectangle is the Shape of Change and Growth and represents a transitional phase in life.
  • It doesn’t define “What you are,” such as an introvert, extrovert, driver, sensor, thinker, feeler, an activator, learner, color, letters of the alphabet, or even an animal, season, or other metaphor, and ultimately how to best work with “what you are.” On the contrary, The Shapes 15-Minute Assessment simply indicates what your communication strengths and talents may be. It gives you the tools to “shape flex” and acquire, use, or further develop all five of the shape traits and behaviors, regardless of your score.

The Shapes Assessment is $24.95. Volume and subscription pricing are available for bulk orders.

  • The three-part Shapes Assessment to identify your traits, behaviors, and interactions with others.
  • A downloadable guide that tells you how to communicate more effectively with each Shape.
  • A detailed, multi-page Shapes Profile Report, revealing your Shapes Score, your primary and secondary shapes, a scoring guide, how you use your Shapes at work, home, and play, and how to leverage your Shapes with the remaining Shapes to be the best possible version of YOU.

The Shapes Assessment and the Shapes Learning Series (online e-learning) apply to all areas of your life.  When you take the Shapes Assessment, you will get your own personal Shapes Profile Report, which includes your Shapes Score and how you use your Shapes at work, at home, and play. You don’t have to have a corporate job to apply the results to how you use your Shapes “at work.”  “At work” can simply mean how you interact with others as part of a group.

Once you complete the Shapes Assessment, you will have the ability to download the Shapes Guide, which will provide a detailed summary of each shape along with recommendations on how to communicate with other Shapes.  You will also be able to download your own personal Shapes Profile Report, which includes a Scoring Guide.

Yes! You can retake the same Shapes Assessment with different instructions. For example, your first Shapes Assessment can serve as a baseline of your natural behavior, choosing the seven items in each category that best represents who you are, how you act, and how you interact with others naturally. The online Shapes Learning Series will give you the tools to Shape Flex, among other things, to maximize your Shape Strengths and develop the Shape Skills you need to strengthen your relationships and communication and influence your overall success.

You can then retake the Shapes Assessment with a different set of instructions, such as selecting the seven items in each category representing your natural talents and learned skills.

It is also important to retake the Shapes Assessment when experiencing change. Your Shapes score will fluctuate during periods of change for as long as 3-18 months, as every shape responds differently to change. This can be an exciting or frustrating time, depending upon your Shape awareness during change and how to successfully Shape your way through change.

When you create your online account and gain access to your personal dashboard, you will be able to see your past Shapes Assessment results to compare them with your current Assessment results.  This will allow you to measure progress in your ability to Shape Flex to be a more effective communicator.

Yes! You can ask others to take the Shapes Assessment to evaluate their perception of you, specifically how they would choose to describe who you are, how you act, and how you relate to others.  You can use their first assessment of you as a benchmark. Then, as a result of their perception, for example, you may determine that developing and learning to use more of your Circle Shape would increase your communication effectiveness. After 3-6 months of developing your Circle Shape as a skill, ask the same person, or group of people, to re-evaluate you. Compare their first assessment of you with their second assessment of you and use the comparison to measure your progress. Repeat annually for continuous improvement. You can access multiple assessments and results in your personal dashboard.

Yes! We have ten online learning modules that are part of the Shapes Online Learning Series. These modules include the following:

  • Module 1 – Introduction to PsychoGeometrics® includes the Shapes Assessment and instruction on how to evaluate your results using the scoring guide, then how to interpret the meaning of the five Shapes and what they mean to you. It includes your downloadable Shapes Profile Report and the Shapes Guide for how to communicate and Shape Flex with each Shape.

  • Module 2 – Shape Perception - Discover how others may perceive who you are, what you do, and how you interact with others, both positively and negatively, and how perception impacts effective communication. Then learn how to raise the probability of changing perceptions to reflect the intent behind your communication when you are willing to modify your Shape behaviors.

  • Module 3 – Shape Flexing - Learn how to be more effective in your communication style by using the unique Shape Flexing tool. You can still be true to who you are while modifying your communication approach and style to be a more effective communicator. When you can manage your SHAPE behavior, you can influence your results.

  • Module 4 – Shape Motivation – You will learn what motivates and demotivates your Shapes and the Shapes of others, then increase the probability you stay motivated, or at least know how to bounce back after being demotivated and communicate in a way that motivates others. When your communication approach and style motivate others, you raise the probability that others will listen and respond in a positive manner.

  • Module 5 – Strategic Shaping - A Five-Star Communication Process that identifies the Shape order of what to say and the Shape style for how to say it, in a way that still allows you to have your own “signature style.” When it comes to communicating, you can still follow a prescribed process without sounding scripted.

  • Module 6 – Shape Awareness - Create a benchmark identifying and clarifying the Shape Behaviors used in your daily communication.

  • Module 7 – Shape Feedback - Use the Shapes Assessment to request feedback when it comes to how others perceive who you are, what you do, and how you relate to others.

  • Module 8 – Shape Strategy - Identify your communication goals, then create your Shape Strategy.

  • Module 9 – Shape Tracking – Learn how to measure individual or team progress for effective communication.

  • Module 10 – Shape Shifting – Learn about the Evolution of Shapes and how change impacts your communication style.

  • PsychoGeometrics® is not a personality test; however, it does feature an assessment that measures your natural traits, behaviors, and interactions with others, which ultimately contributes to your personality and communication style.

  • It’s important to note that everyone has their own unique Shapes DNA or score. No one is just one Shape, and the way the scoring is done, every Shape makes up a percentage of your total score. In summary, people are a blend of shapes.

Yes!  There is the Evolution of Shapes. While, according to the science behind PsychoGeometrics®, it is believed that a person is born with his or her primary and secondary Shapes that represent one’s natural behavior or communication style. This normally stays with a person all his or her life, but because of a change in a person’s life or a change that impact’s a person’s life, the Evolution of Shapes can occur, causing someone to use a different Shape more often, which impacts the traits, behaviors, and interactions of a person.

Yes!  Just because you are one Shape at work and another at home, it doesn’t mean you are necessarily good at using either one of the Shapes, at least in terms of good being defined as “used in a healthy and effective manner, in the right proportions, and for the benefit of you, others or the situation.”  Suppose you are naturally good at using a Shape or have learned to use a Shape in a healthy and effective manner. In that case, you enjoy using that Shape or assume that Shape is your primary behavior. Likewise, suppose you have to use a Shape that you don’t particularly like or are not good or comfortable using. In that case, you don’t enjoy using that Shape or assuming it as your primary behavior.
